Film & Television

The Film & Television industry is growing rapidly throughout British Columbia and here at home, on Vancouver Island. With various sound stages scheduled across Vancouver Island , film skills training and professional management services, at KC Casting, we are optimistic that this exciting growth will continue.

Ahead of every rolling camera is a casting process. It involves working closely with Directors and/or Producers to fully understand the elements of each character and to be able to define and articulate them. Within established budget parameters, we then reach out to the acting community to find the skills, the look and a performer’s intangible connection to a role that will help carry a story. As Casting Directors, we have the ability to recognize new talent and to utilize established talent in new and interesting ways and always with a view to the success of the finished product in whatever visual form that might take.

Part of the casting process involves building relationships with Talent Agents which help to facilitate the negotiation process for either union or non-union performers. Inherent in this process is an in-depth understanding of contracts, legislation and industry practices.

At KC Casting, we provide skilled, knowledgable and proven Casting Services. We are excited by the projects in front of us and the growing community we are part of. We welcome opportunities to provide professional casting services for your project.

On Set Rules and Checklists

ARRIVE ON TIME! If you are unavoidably delayed, please call us immediately! Report to the Contact Person provided. Once you have checked in, ALWAYS ensure your contact person knows your whereabouts. You should remain in a designated holding area - only step out after notifying your contact person. You will often be directed first to an individual that processes paperwork for the Production. Complete forms as requested - neatly and completely to avoid delays.

You will most likely be directed to a BG (or Extra) Holding area - settle here with your wardrobe options and wait for Wardrobe to direct you. Once you have been seen and directed by Wardrobe, Hair & Makeup, you will then need to wait until one of the Assistant Directors (AD’s) calls you to set with your instructions.

During your wait time, it is acceptable to engage in quiet conversations or activities but you must be able to hear (no earphones!) and respond to directions when they are given.

When you are on set, the mark of a real professional is one who remembers every step and move they make so that they can recreate it several times. The On Set Rules are brief and un-forgiving. Learn them by heart and know that some Directors will immediately dismiss those who break these rules!
